August 19, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's tennis will go head-to-head with 15 schools that earned NCAA Tournament bids a season ago as part of its 2016-17 spring schedule, which head coach Jay Udwadia released today.
The squad will open up the spring slate with a doubleheader against UT-Rio Grande Valley and in-state rival Oral Roberts on Jan. 21. Two days later the Cowboys take on Arkansas at the Greenwood Tennis Center in a rematch of last season's second round matchup in the NCAA Tournament.
OSU will host the ITA Kick-Off the following weekend, taking on Columbia in the opening match and then concluding with either Tulsa or Kentucky on Jan. 28.
The Cowboys will hit the road for the first time during the spring season as they head to North Carolina to face off with Wake Forest on Feb. 3 and then wrapping up the weekend with NC State on Feb. 5.
The squad returns to action in Stillwater the next week to host a trio of opponents. On Feb. 10, OSU will take on Alabama at 5:00 p.m., and then two days later they will take on Wichita State at 11:00 a.m. before facing UMKC at 3:30 p.m. in the Cowboys' second doubleheader of the season.
Following a trip to Charlottesville, Virginia, for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, the Cowboys will travel to Big Ten country for a weekend slate of matches against Minnesota on Feb. 24 and Northwestern on Feb. 26.
OSU will take on its third Big Ten opponent of the season four days later when the Cowboys face Michigan in La Jolla, California, prior to competing in the prestigious Pacific Coast Doubles Championships. A Cowboy duo has won the event in the past two years with Nicolai Ferrigno and Lucas Gerch taking the crown two years ago and then the All-American duo of Arjun Kadhe and Julian Cash winning the event last season.
The squad returns back to the confines of the Greenwood Tennis Center the weekend of March 10 as Memphis and San Diego State come to Stillwater to take on the Cowboys. OSU will then head to Las Vegas for a St. Patrick's Day doubleheader against UNLV and Montana.
Before getting into conference action, the Cowboys will complete the road portion of their non-conference schedule on March 26 when they head down I-35 to face SMU at 3:00 p.m. OSU will open conference play the following weekend as Big 12 foes TCU and Texas come to town.
The Cowboys will hit the road for two more Big 12 matchups the following weekend as they head to Lubbock, Texas on April 7 to face Texas Tech and then OSU completes its Texas two-step by taking on Baylor in Waco on April 9. The Cowboys knocked off both the Red Raiders and the Bears in Stillwater last season.
OSU's final non-conference matchup of the season will also act as senior night for the Cowboys when Tulsa visits on April 14. The following weekend, OSU will conclude regular season action as they travel to Norman, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma on April 22. The squad will return to Norman the following weekend to compete in the Big 12 Championships.
