Cowboy Tennis Collects ITA Academic Awards
July 26, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team continued to collect awards for its academic success with the announcement of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's 2016 Academic Awards.
Lucas Gerch, Arjun Kadhe and Mateo Ruiz Naranjo were all announced as ITA Scholar-Athletes, marking the third consecutive season that OSU qualified at least three Cowboys as scholar-athletes, with Kadhe achieving the feat for a second time after being previously honored in 2014.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
As a group, the Cowboys were named an ITA All-Academic Team, which is open to any ITA program with a cumulative team grade point average above 3.20 when all varsity letter winners factored in for the current academic year.
Oklahoma State has now been awarded ITA All-Academic Team status in each of the past three seasons.
Last season was one of the most successful in recent memory for the Cowboys as they compiled 20 dual wins, 12 of which came against ranked opponents, and advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008.
