May 04, 2016 | Cowgirl Tennis
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State women's tennis had two members chosen to participate in the singles portion of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships, it was announced on Wednesday.
Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic were selected as at-large selections for the 64-player tournament, which will be held May 25-30 at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the conclusion of the team championship.
Adamovic has recorded 16 wins on the year, including seven during spring competition. The junior also helped the Cowgirls win their first Big 12 tournament since 2003 with a straight-set victory against No. 100 Gabriela Talaba of Texas Tech in the final at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.
Babic owns 24 wins this season, including 14 in the spring. Babic has won six-straight matches and went undefeated during the conference tournament.
Viktoriya Lushkova has been selected as an alternative for the individual tournament after also going undefeated last weekend in Stillwater.
Automatic qualification into the Division I singles championships is awarded to any conference with one or more eligible singles players ranked in the ITA Top 125 for eligible/entered singles players. For conferences with more than one singles player within the ITA Top 125 eligible/entered singles players, the subcommittee applies the NCAA selection criteria to determine which student-athlete is the automatic qualifier from those conferences. All singles players must have a minimum of 13 completed singles matches, with six matches in the spring, in order to be selected as an automatic qualifier or an at-large selection.
