Cash & Kadhe Bested In Quarterfinals At NCAA Doubles Championship
May 28, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State's Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe's run at the NCAA Doubles Championship concluded on Saturday as the Cowboy duo fell in the quarterfinals to UCLA's Mackenzie McDonald and Martin Redlicki, 7-6(4), 7-5.
"It was a great season for both of us and we had a lot of fun on the court," Kadhe said. "Today we missed out on a great opportunity because we had most of the match in control, but give the other guys (McDonald and Redlicki) credit because they picked up there level in the second set."
Cash/Kadhe's journey at the tournament was a historic one as the two received All-American status yesterday with their victory in the round of 16 over San Diego's Jordan Angus/Filip Vittek, which made Kadhe the third Cowboy in program history to earn All-American status three times during his career as he joined fellow Pokes Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Jakob Sude.
The Cowboys jumped out to a hot start as they broke serve twice to take a 3-1 lead. Cash/Kadhe built on the early momentum and were in great position to win the first set by extending their lead to 5-2.
UCLA's McDonald/Redlicki went on to win four of the next five games in the set to force a tiebreak after the Cowboys had three chances to close out the Bruin duo.
In the tiebreak, McDonald/Redlicki jumped out in front early and didn't let up as they took a 6-1 lead and would win the first set, 7-6(4).
Cash/Kadhe would crawl out to an early lead again in the second set, but couldn't hold the advantage as the UCLA duo battled back to take a 5-4 edge.
Needing to win a game to keep the match alive, the Cowboys trailed 40-0 before they made a furious comeback to win deuce point and extend the match.
In the final two games, McDonald/Redlicki put a stop to the Poke comeback by winning both games and taking the match, 7-6(4), 7-5.
Cash/Kadhe finish the season with 35 doubles victories, two tournament titles and ranked as the No. 10 doubles team in the nation according to the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings.
"I'm so proud to be a Cowboy and to be part of this program with this team and coaching staff," Cash said. "I can't wait to come back next season with everyone as we proved how far we can go. Next season we will start fresh by getting some good work in the fall to get ready for another memorable spring."
