Cash Drops First Round Match At NCAA Singles Championship
May 25, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State's Julian Cash dropped his opening round match at the NCAA Singles Championship as he fell to Illinois' Aleks Vukic in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-4, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Tuesday.
"Great experience," Cash said. "I didn't play to the level I wanted, but none the less it's been a great season and I look forward to coming back next year with a year of experience and competition under my belt. Hopefully with those two things I'll be able to put my game out on the court and give it a better shot in 2017."
The All-American struggled in the first set as Vukic broke serve a couple times to take the set, 6-2. In the second, Cash made a late surge in the match as the Cowboy reeled off three-straight games in the set to put the score at 5-4 in favor of Vukic.
Unfortunately, Vukic would take the next game in the set to win the match, 6-2, 6-4.
Cash finishes the year with a 20-12 overall record in singles play that includes four victories over top 25 singles opponents, including a straight-set win over No. 7 Andre Goransson of California.
Up next for Cash is the NCAA Doubles Championship with partner Arjun Kadhe tomorrow. The All-American duo will face Florida State's Benjamin Lock/Marco Nunez in the first round of the tournament at 2:30 p.m. CT.
