Cowboys, Karsten Creek Ready For NCAA Regional
May 15, 2016 | Cowboy Golf
STILLWATER, Okla. — Karsten Creek, home of the Oklahoma State's men's golf team, will serve as the host site for regional action for the third time this week when the NCAA Stillwater Regional gets underway on Monday.
The host Cowboys will serve as the top seed and will be grouped with No. 2 seed Clemson and third-seeded Oklahoma when play gets underway on Monday. The trio is set to begin play at 8 a.m. (CST) at the par-72, 7,418-yard layout. The 54-hole event will run through Wednesday with 18 holes being contested each day.
The Tom Fazio design has twice hosted the NCAA Championship, holding the event in 2003 and 2011. Additionally, the course served as home to the Karsten Creek Collegiate in 1996, the NCAA Central Regional in 2001, the Ping/Golfweek Preview in 2002 and 2010 and the NCAA South Central Regional in 2009.
OSU's lineup will consist of senior Jordan Niebrugge as well as sophomores Kristoffer Ventura, Stratton Nolen, Brendon Jelley and Sam Stevens.
The Cowboys have won a nation-leading 10 regional titles dating back to 1989. That year, the three-regional system was implemented and used until 2008. During that time, the Cowboys competed in the Central Regional every year. The 2009 campaign marked the first time a six-regional format was used.
Ten times a Cowboy has claimed medalist honors with Niebrugge being the most recent, finishing first last year at the New Haven Regional.
Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 27-June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.
Live scoring for the event will be available at golfstat.com.
