Game NotesÂ
STILLWATER---- Oklahoma State softball has an extra day for preparation and rest to prepare for Texas after Wednesday's game against Tulsa was postponed.
Â
The Cowgirls (22-19 overall, 4-6 Big 12) are set to travel to Austin this weekend for a three-game set against the Longhorns. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m., with the series scheduled to continue on Saturday at 1 p.m.. The series is set to conclude on Sunday at noon.
Â
All three games can be seen on the Longhorn Network. Tyler Denning and Megan Willis will be on the call.
Â
"We would have rather played," Coach Kenny Gajewski said. "We've got some kids who need to pitch. You never like to have your hitters miss a whole week of games so we're going to get to some live action today and hopefully make it as real as we can."
Â
Gajewski said with that in mind, the extra day of rest for the team is still a good thing this time of the year as the season continues on.
Â
With the extra day of rest, the Cowgirls now turn their attention to the Texas Longhorns (27-13, 2-6).
Â
"We'll take a little time and look at them," Gajewski said. "With this group, we've had the tendency to focus more on us than the other team just to get us right. This gives us another chance to work on some defense and some things we need to sure up on both offense and defense."
Â
As for the players, Brandi Needham said the Cowgirls are ready to put the past week behind them and get back on the field.
Â
"We're ready to just take every game one inning at a time and one pitch at a time," she said. "Coach always talks about when you get knocked down, get back up punching and that's what we're planning on doing this weekend."
Â
Needham said as long as the Oklahoma State pitchers focus on taking things one pitch at a time, the Cowgirls should find some success in Austin.
Â
"We just need to take everything pitch by pitch," she said. "Compete within ourselves. Whenever a pitch is called, really focus on what we want that pitch to do and execute and I think we'll be fine."
