Cowgirls Drop Series to Baylor
April 16, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER ---- Oklahoma State softball dropped its conference series against No. 20 Baylor with a 9-0 loss in the rubber match Saturday at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Cowgirls (22-19 overall, 4-6 Big 12) upset the Bears on Friday in the first game of the doubleheader before dropping the final two games of the series.
"Baylor is a great team," Freshman Berkley Faulkner said. "They competed with us in every aspect of the game. I think most of all, we got to see one of the best pitchers in the nation (Heather Stearns) and I think that will help us offensively in the upcoming weeks."
Senior Kacy Freeze started her second game of the series, and held Baylor (35-12, 7-4) scoreless the first three innings. The Bears would eventually score first in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead after four.
Junior Brandi Needham came on in relief for Freeze in the middle of the fifth after Baylor took a 6-0 lead, and shut down the Bears for the final two outs of the inning and the sixth.
Baylor scored three more in the top of the seventh to secure the 9-0 win and series victory.
Freeze (12-7) took the loss for the Cowgirls. She went 4.2 innings, allowing five hits and striking out two.
Sophomore Vanessa Shippy had the lone hit for the Cowgirls. She finished the day 1-for-2 and a walk.
"This will be a good learning tool," Coach Kenny Gajewski said. "To go back here and show some film. We've got a couple of days off, not really days off but days where we can bring some kids in and show them some things and show them how people are attacking you."
