Pair Of Cowboys Preparing For NBA Playoffs Action
April 15, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – A pair of former Cowboy basketball stars helped their teams make the NBA playoffs and will once again be chasing the Larry O'Brien Trophy beginning this weekend.
After an All-NBA Rookie team selection last season, second-year pro Marcus Smart upped his scoring (9.1 PPG) and rebounding (4.2 RPG) averages, which helped Boston earn the No. 5 seed in the East. They will face No. 4 seed Atlanta at 6 p.m. on Saturday on ESPN.
In last year's playoffs, Smart started three of the four games for the Celtics, and he averaged 9.8 points on 48.3 percent shooting.
In his 12th season in the NBA, Tony Allen is making his 10th career playoff appearance, and his ninth straight. One of the league's best defenders year-in and year-out, Allen led Memphis with 1.7 steals per game, and also poured in 8.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
The Grizzlies earned the No. 7 seed in the West, which means a first-round matchup against No. 2 San Antonio. That series gets started at 7 p.m. Sunday night in the Alamo city. The opening game can be seen on TNT.
