The Impact of Gajewski Heading Into Baylor
April 14, 2016 | Cowgirl Softball
Game Notes
STILLWATER ---- The impact of first-year coach Kenny Gajewski on Oklahoma State softball can be seen anywhere you look as the team returns to Cowgirl Stadium to play host to Baylor for a three-game series this weekend.
It can be seen in the results, and the team morale.
The Cowgirls (21-17 overall, 3-4 Big 12) are winning, and having fun doing it.
"They've made (the transition) easier just by helping us be relaxed," Tiffany Mikkelson said. "Being ourselves and being calm. I wouldn't want any other coaching staff to be with me my last year. It has been the greatest year and I honestly wish I had three more. They've welcomed us with open arms even though we're the ones who have been here longer than they have. They've just been really supportive and that's been the best part."
After the win against Central Arkansas on Wednesday, Oklahoma State extended its win streak to four games and matched its win total from last season. With 16 games remaining, it's clear Gajewski and the rest of the coaching staff has the program heading in the right direction.
"It's incredible what they've all done for us so far," Berkley Faulkner said. "Their energy every day is what keeps us going. They're completely bought in. They're behind us 100 percent. There is nothing like playing for coaches who believe in you and want you to have success and support you every day."
As the year has progressed, so have the Cowgirls. The past three weeks, the record book has been changed multiple times by a team that hasn't settled for where they are. They continue to want more.
They plan to keep having fun, and let the results take care of themselves.
"We keep it fun" Faulkner said. "We celebrate the small things and we just enjoy being around each other."
After a quick break from conference play against Central Arkansas, the Cowgirls return home to take on the Baylor Bears.
Due to weather concerns in Stillwater, Oklahoma State will play a doubleheader against the Bears (33-11, 5-3) on Friday at 4 and 6 p.m. The final game of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday with free admission.
The first two games of the series will be broadcasted on Cox, with the final game of the series set to be broadcasted on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
