Late Charge Not Enough In Loss to Kansas State

Kansas City, Mo. ---- Tyree Griffin finished with 11 points and 10 assists to lead an Oklahoma State comeback effort that fell just short in a 75-71 loss to Kansas State in the Sprint Center in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Wednesday.
The performance was Griffin's first-career double-double.
The Cowboys found themselves in position to come away with a win after a tough ending to the first half.
After a small Kansas State run, a Joe Burton three with 7:24 remaining cut the Oklahoma State deficit to 65-55. His eventual jumper with 3:32 left cut the deficit back to single digits for the first time since the first half at 67-58.
An Anthony Allen dunk out of a Kansas State timeout cut the deficit back to single digits at 69-61, and a Leyton Hammonds three with 1:25 left made it 70-64 Kansas State.
Griffin's jumper with 22 seconds remaining cut the deficit to four, and his free throw with 5 seconds left made it 72-69 Wildcats before Kansas State hit two key free throws to hang on for the win.
As for the first half, Jeffrey Carroll took over the game early and scored a team-high 10 points in the half.
Mitchell Solomon won the opening tip and his layup the first possession of the game got the Cowboys on the board first. A Hammonds layup off his offensive rebound the following possession gave Oklahoma State an early 4-2.
The Wildcats took a 7-4 lead into the first media timeout with 15:54 left, but a Burton three with 11:32 cut the deficit to 12-8.
Later in the half, a pair of Carroll free throws with 1:14 cut the Kansas State lead to 38-23, but the Wildcats would take a 40-23 lead into halftime.
Bench points were a key factor for the Cowboys as the outscored the Wildcats 37-11 in that category. Every Oklahoma State player who saw action went on to score and the team outscored Kansas State 48-35 in the second half.
Dean Wade led the way for Kansas State with 20 points.
Alongside Griffin, Oklahoma State also had impact performances from Burton and Carroll, and Hammonds. Burton and Carroll finished with 13 points while Hammonds finished with 10 points and seven rebounds
