OSU Game Notes

The Cowboys have won 12 of the last 13 games against the Horned Frogs, but the lone loss was last year's game at TCU.
On the Air

Oklahoma State Snapshot
• The Cowboys have put themselves in position to win nearly every Big 12 game this season. Five of Oklahoma State's eight conference losses have been by five points or less, including its last three league games. OSU was tied with both No. 13 Iowa State and No. 17 Baylor inside the final two minutes, and fell to Texas Tech on the last shot of overtime. The potential game-winning 3-pointer rimmed out for the Cowboys against No. 2 Oklahoma, while a furious second half rally whittled Texas' lead to just three points with 14 seconds on the clock.
• Jawun Evans is having one of the best all-around offensive seasons ever by an OSU point guard. He is one of just five players in school history to average at least 4.9 assists and 10.0 points per game, and Evans is the only one of those players to also pull down more than 4.0 rebounds per game. Evans is this season's only three-time winner of the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award. Evans has led the Cowboys in scoring, rebounding and assists in three of his last seven games, and four times this year. His 42-point outing against No. 2 Oklahoma is the third highest scoring performance in school history.
• The Cowboys field a solid defensive unit that ranks second in the Big 12 in scoring defense at 66.5 points per game. OSU is holding its opponents to 39.8 percent shooting, which leads the league and ranks 36th nationally. The Cowboys defense starts at the rim, where they rank third in the Big 12 with 4.4 blocked shots per game. The Cowboys have held their Big 12 opponents to 70.4 points and 42.3 percent shooting, which ranks third and fourth in the conference, respectively.
• The Jan. 19 victory over No. 3/3 Kansas gave the Cowboys a 66.7 all-time win percentage at home against opponents ranked in the Associated Press top three, which is the best in college basketball history according to ESPN.
• Senior Phil Forte injured his elbow in the first half of the win over Towson, which snapped his streak of consecutive games played at 102. The senior hadn't missed a single game in his career up to that point. Forte was a Preseason All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honoree, and needs just 55 three-pointers to tie Keiton Page (2008-12) for the school record. At the time, he ranked third in the Big 12 in career scoring and third in the country in career 3-pointers.
• Head coach Travis Ford ranks third in school history in both total wins (154) and win percentage (59.9 percent). Ford ranks behind only Eddie Sutton and Mr. Henry Iba in both categories, and recently picked up his 21st win over a ranked opponent with the victory over No. 3 KU.
TCU Snapshot
• The Horned Frogs have lost their last seven Big 12 games, including Saturday's 75-56 loss to Kansas in Ft. Worth. TCU is led by sophomore guard Malique Trent, who is one of the Big 12's most versatile guards with averages of 11.0 points, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
• Head coach Trent Johnson is in his fourth season at the helm in Fort Worth, and his 16th overall as a head coach. He has been named Coach of the Year in three different conference (2003 WAC, 2008 Pac-10 and 2009 SEC) and has over 270 victories to his credit. Johnson has made five trips to the NCAA, including a run to the Sweet 16 a Stanford in 2008.
• TCU's home facility, the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena, recently received a $72 million renovation. The interior has a lower playing surface to increase courtside seating, as well as wider concourses, new concession stands, restrooms and courtside club lounge. The facility also includes the new TCU Athletic Hall of Fame and offices for the athletics administrative staff as well as coaches in various sports.
Inside the TCU Series
• The Cowboys lead the series with TCU, 23-3, including wins in each of the last two games and 12 of the last 13.
• Last season, TCU's home court was being renovated, so the Frogs played their home games off campus at the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center in Ft. Worth. That's where the Cowboys fell to TCU, 70-55, to snap a 10-game win streak over the Frogs.
• The Cowboys are 8-1 all-time in Stillwater against TCU. The lone Frogs victory in Stillwater was a 37-16 win on Jan. 30, 1925. OSU has never lost to TCU in Gallagher-Iba Arena (6-0).
• The Cowboys will have quite a cheering section at TCU due to the number of players that call the DFW Metroplex home. Five OSU players hail from DFW; Jawun Evans (Dallas), Tavarius Shine (Irving), Phil Forte (Flower Mound), Leyton Hammonds (North Richland Hills), Jeffrey Carroll (Rowlett).
An Oklahoma State Win Would ...
• Give the Cowboys a three game win streak over TCU, and wins in 13 of the last 14 meetings.
• Snap OSU's four game losing streak in Big 12 play.
• Give OSU its second road win of the season, and its first away victory in Big 12 play.
• Move the Cowboys to an even 12-12 on the season, including a 3-8 record in Big 12 play.
