Cowboys Make Big Push In ITA Rankings
February 03, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's tennis squad jumped eight spots in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings to secure a spot in the top-20 at No. 17 on Wednesday. This marks the first time the Cowboys have appeared in the top-20 since 2014, but is the highest ranking the Pokes have checked in at since February 2009.
The huge leap in the polls for the Cowboys comes thanks to huge victories at home this past weekend against No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 22 Minnesota and a dominant shutout win against No. 36 North Carolina State on Tuesday.
Oklahoma State defeated the No. 11-ranked Demon Deacons on Friday in a thriller, as Cowboy and recently named Big 12 Player of the Week Lukas Finzelberg clinched the victories against Wake Forest and Minnesota.
With the three victories, the Cowboys have now defeated five teams in the ITA top-50 this season and have shutout six of their eight opponents this season. They've outscored their opponents by a combined 42-7 to start the spring.
Oklahoma State is one of five Big 12 teams inside the top-20 with No. 2 TCU, No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Oklahoma and No. 14 Texas Tech joining the Pokes.
The Cowboys will look to continue their success this season when they head to Fayetteville, Arkansas, this Sunday to take on the No. 64 Arkansas Razorbacks at 1 p.m.
