Cowgirls Roll Past No. 33 Washington
February 20, 2016 | Cowgirl Tennis
STILLWATER – The No. 14 Oklahoma State women's tennis team remained perfect at home with a dominant 4-0 victory against No. 33 Washington at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Cowgirls (9-2: 0-0 Big 12) have won seven matches at home, with five of those victories coming against ranked teams. Washington entered the match with only one loss, coming against No. 1 California.
Saturday marked the first time that the Cowgirls have played outdoors this season.
"I thought it was a great match, we had great weather and fan support," coach Chris Young said. "Overall, I think this is something that we can build on moving forward and we're proud of the girls and the way they played."
The Cowgirls started the match in typical fashion, winning the doubles point to build an early lead. OSU has yet to lose the doubles point so far this season.
OSU fell early in the No. 2 doubles match, as Tami Grende and Stacey Fung defeated Maria Alvarez and Katarina Stresnakova, 6-3.
The Pokes responded by winning the final two doubles matches.
The No. 29 duo of Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic answered with a win at the No. 3 position against Elianne Douglas-Miron and Sophia Bott, 6-3.
Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari secured the point for the Cowgirls. The duo, ranked No. 30, took down Nour Abbes and Miki Kobayashi in a nail-biter, 7-6 (4).
"We haven't lost the doubles point all season and we're taking pride in that and I think you saw that at the end," Young said.
The excitement carried over into singles, where the Cowgirls took advantage of a tremendous crowd to complete the sweep.
Lushkova continued her excellent form in singles, where the reigning Big 12 Co-Player of the Year remains undefeated.
The All-American wasted little time in defeating Grende in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Alvarez gave the Cowgirls a 3-0 lead playing at the No. 6 position, recording a straight-set victory against Bott, 7-5, 6-2.
The clinching point for the Cowgirls came from sophomore Vladica Babic. Babic put the Huskies away with a straight-set victory against Fung, 6-4, 6-4.
The remaining matches were unfinished.
The Cowgirls will now prepare for the Blue Gray Invitational next weekend in Montgomery, Alabama.
