Cowgirls Fall In First Round Of Blue Gray Classic

MONTGOMERY, ALA. – Oklahoma State women's tennis team fell in a 4-3 nail-biter to No. 61 Auburn in the first round of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., on Friday.
"Today the conditions tested everyone and credit to Auburn for executing well at the end," coach Chris Young said. "We continue to play good doubles but we need to finish better in singles."
The No. 11 Cowgirls (9-3; 0-0 Big 12) took the doubles point from the Tigers with wins on courts one and two. OSU has yet to lose a doubles point this season.
Maria Alvarez and Kelsey Laurente posted the first win of the day for the Pokes. The tandem recorded a victory against Alizee Michaud and Reka Muller, 6-4.
Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari remained undefeated in doubles play. The Cowgirl juniors secured the point with a victory against Pleun Burgmans and Paula de Man, 6-4.
The Cowgirls picked up two wins in singles courtesy of Tur Mari and Laurente.
Tur Mari was the first court to finish in singles, as she picked up a straight-set victory against Caroline Turner, 6-2, 6-1.
After dropping the first set, Laurente battled to take the final two sets. The Florida native gave the Cowgirls the third point of the day, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.
Viktoriya Lushkova fell against Alizee Michaud, 6-2, 6-3. The match marked Lushkova's first singles loss of the season.
Vladica Babic took the first set of her match against Burgmans, before eventually falling, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6. The match cut the Cowgirl lead to 3-2.
Katarina Stresnakova had an intense three-set match against de Man. The match came down to a tiebreaker in the final set, but the Cowgirl freshman came up just short, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.
The deciding match came at the No. 1 position, where Katarina Adamovic faced No. 33 Andie Dikosavljevic. Adamovic and Dikosavljevic split the first two sets, forcing a third set to decide a winner.
Dikosavljevic took the match, 6-2, 7-6, 6-3.
The Cowgirls return to action tomorrow at the Blue Gray Classic against The Cowgirls will face a to be determined opponent.
