STILLWATER, Okla. – Clad in white jerseys with pink trim as part of the Play4Kay contest, Oklahoma State women's basketball knocked off West Virginia, 63-51, in front of 3,223 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena on Saturday.
With the win OSU improves to 19-5 (9-4 Big 12), while WVU falls to 19-7 (8-5 Big 12).
The win is the Cowgirls' fourth over a top-25 opponent this season and gives OSU sole possession of third place in the Big 12.
Kaylee Jensen and the Cowgirls used a 10-0 run in the first quarter, fueled by six points from Jensen herself, to take an 11-point lead. The sophomore continued to score in the second quarter, adding another six points in the quarter and finishing with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds.
Along with Jensen, Brittney Martin asserted herself early on in the contest.
After six minutes had passed, the Big 12's leader in scoring, rebounds and steals had already recorded four points, five rebounds and three steals. Martin finished with eight points, 16 rebounds and five steals.
A 6-0 run to open the second quarter was capped off by a Katelyn Loecker layup. Loecker finished with just five points, but drew four charges in the second half, the fourth one fouling out WVU's Bria Holmes with six minutes remaining in the game.
Mandy Coleman and Sydney Walton both also scored in double figures for the Cowgirls. Coleman came up just short of a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds, while Walton finished with 10 points (2-4 3FG).
Defensively, OSU held WVU to eight and six points in the first two quarters, marking the 13th and 14th times that OSU had held an opponent to single digits during a quarter this season.
Next up for the Cowgirls is a trip to Waco, Texas on Wednesday for their second matchup of the season with fourth-ranked Baylor. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside the Ferrell Center.
