Cash and Kadhe Best Second-Ranked Bergevi and Lakat At National Indoors

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Oklahoma State tennis' top-ranked duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe continued their run at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships by winning a matchup of the nation's top-ranked doubles tandems on Saturday, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11).
The highly-anticipated matchup between the Cowboys and California's second-ranked Filip Bergevi and Florian Lakat didn't disappoint as the duos went head-to-head with a spot in the consolation finals on the line.
It was a tight contest from the start as the pairs traded games through the first set before the Golden Bears were able to pull away with some timely break points. The second set saw the script flip however as Cash and Kadhe clicked into gear and were able to split sets with their foes, forcing a third-set super tiebreak to determine a winner.
The Cowboys found themselves up against the wall in the tiebreak as Bergevi and Lakat had match point on multiple occasions, but Cash and Kadhe continued to show the resiliency they've displayed throughout the fall campaign. After going back and forth with the Cal tandem, the top-ranked Cash and Kadhe made one final charge when they found themselves facing match point and rattled off three straight points of their own to secure the comeback victory.
"It was a tough match and the level of tennis was pretty good," Kadhe said after the win. "It was good to get a win against such a highly-ranked team and we're looking forward to another good match tomorrow."
Saturday's meeting marked the second time the duos have faced each other, with the Cowboys coming out on top, 6-3, in their previous encounter last season. Cash and Kadhe's victory propels them into Sunday's doubles consolation finals, where they will face off with Florida's Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen. That match is currently scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT.
