November 30, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State senior guard Phil Forte, III was among a record 181 nominees for the Allstate Good Works Team presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
The Allstate NABC Good Works Teams recognize players at all levels of college basketball whose charitable involvement and altruistic acts stand out amongst all other student-athletes participating in the sport.
On top of his on-court accolades, Forte received his degree in Recreation Management in the summer of 2016, and is a seven-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection and a two-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree. He earned the Oklahoma State Academic Achievement Award in 2013, 2014 and 2015 for maintaining a 3.0 GPA, and he was named to the President's Honor Roll (4.0 GPA) in the spring of 2013. He was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team in 2014.
Much like he has each year, Forte spent his offseason volunteering and speaking to various groups in Stillwater and throughout Oklahoma. He was a part of the Nike N7 Youth Movement field day, the OSU Coaches vs. Cancer Birthday Bask, the Stillwater Feed the Children food drive, and he even welcomed the children of Sangre Elementary to school in August. He spoke at OSU's Camp Cowboy to welcome freshmen to school, and at Richmond Elementary, Forte spoke to the grade-school students about how to strive for excellence.
The final Allstate NABC Good Works Team will include five student-athletes from NCAA Division I, Divisions II and III, as well as the NAIA, and will be unveiled in February.
The 2017 selection panel members include: two-time NCAA champion and seven-time NBA All-Star Grant Hill (Duke); two-time Nancy Lieberman Award winner and current WNBA player Skylar Diggins (Notre Dame); former college basketball student-athletes Clark Kellogg (Ohio State University / CBS Sports), Len Elmore (University of Maryland / CBS Sports / ESPN) and Alana Beard (Duke University); media members Seth Davis (Sports Illustrated / CBS), Dana O'Neil (ESPN), LaChina Robinson (ESPN / FOX) and Brenda VanLengen (ESPN / FOX Sports); former head coaches Bobby Cremins (Georgia Tech / College of Charleston), Seth Greenberg (Virginia Tech University), Marsha Sharp (Texas Tech University) and Nell Fortner (Auburn University); and current coach Coquese Washington (Penn State University).
