Cowgirls Post Perfect Thursday at National Indoors

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Oklahoma State women's tennis players Viktoriya Lushkova, Vladica Babic and Carla Tur Mari wrapped up the first day of competition at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships with three ranked wins. Babic and Tur Mari won a pair of matches to advance into the doubles quarterfinals, while Lushkova advanced to the round of 16 in the singles main draw.
"The girls came out with incredible focus in every match," assistant coach Matt Manasse said. "I couldn't be happier with the way they competed today. The level in both singles and doubles was extremely high and I know we are all excited to get back on the court tomorrow."
Lushkova opened the day for the Cowgirls with an upset of seventh-seeded and fifth-ranked Sinead Lohan of Miami in the round of 32. The Ukrainian senior came back from a one-break, 4-1 deficit in the first set to take 11 of the next 15 games and eventually the match, 6-4, 6-4. Lushkova will take on Pepperdine's Ashley Lahey in the round of 16 on Friday morning.
Babic and Tur Mari added a pair of upsets as well. The Cowgirl duo served up their weekend in New York with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over No. 4 Mira Ruder-Hook and Brienne Minor of Michigan in the round of 32.
The pair advanced into the main draw quarterfinals with a triumph over second-seeded and sixth-ranked Luisa Stefani and Jean Runglerkriangkrai of Pepperdine. The Cowgirls shut out Stefani and Runglerkriangkrai in the first set, before shutting the door on the Pepperdine tandem, 6-0, 6-4.
Tur Mari and Lushkova will take on Florida's Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcock Friday afternoon.
Action at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships will continue Friday morning at 8 a.m. CT with singles play. Doubles will begin at 2:30 p.m. Fans can watch the action with a subscription at FloTennis.com or follow live scoring at ITATennis.com.
