Top-Ranked Cash and Kadhe Collect First Win of Season
October 07, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State men's tennis completed the second day of main draw action at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships on Friday.
Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe, who form the nation's top-ranked tandem, took part in their second match of the week as they faced No. 51 Jordi Arconada and AJ Cantanzariti of Texas A&M. The top-ranked duo was able to find their rhythm early in the match and knocked off the Aggie tandem in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, to earn their first victory of the season.
Cash and Kadhe will now move in the doubles consolation quarterfinals on Saturday where they are slated to go head-to-head with No. 43 Martin Joyce and Hugo Di Feo of Ohio State.
Along with competing in doubles action, Cash, ranked No. 29 by the ITA, competed in the singles consolation bracket as he squared off with No. 124 Jakob Amilon of UNLV - his second ranked opponent in as many days.
The Brighton, England native cruised through the match as he picked up the first singles win of his junior campaign in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Cash now moves into the singles consolation Round of 16, where he will face off with Jack Findel-Hawkins at 11:30 a.m.
Lukas Finzelberg was the only Cowboy to advance in the main draw yesterday as he knocked off a third straight ranked foe to secure his spot in today's Round of 32 where he was matched up with No. 18 Gustav Hansson of Ole Miss.
Finzelberg's great form continued in the early stages of the matchup as he jumped out in front quickly, but Hansson was able to rally, ultimately forcing, and then winning, a tiebreak between the two. Hansson carried the newfound momentum into the second set where he was able to put Finzelberg away, 7-6 (3), 6-1.
The loss ends Finzelberg's week of competition in Tulsa, but the German international made a statement with his play this week as he knocked off three ranked opponents, including No. 27 Nick Crystal in the Round of 64 yesterday. Finzelberg also became the first Cowboy to win a singles main draw match at the ITA All-American Championships since Oleksandr Nedovyesov was a finalist at the event in 2008.
