October 26, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State tennis' top-ranked duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe were named in the field for the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, which was announced by the ITA on Wednesday.
Cash and Kadhe earned an automatic bid into the prestigious tournament due to their success this past weekend as the duo rattled off five consecutive wins and took home the ITA Central Regional doubles championships. By taking home the title, they became the first Oklahoma State duo to win the event since Aleksey Bessonov and Cowboy legend Oleksandr Nedovyesov took home the crown in 2009.
Along with winning the ITA Central Regional Championship, the duo has already found plenty of success this season as they finished runner-up in the doubles back draw at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships. Cash and Kadhe also became the first duo in Oklahoma State history to earn the No. 1 spot in the ITA Rankings, as they were named college tennis' best tandem in the September 13 edition.
After winning an OSU-record 34 matches together last season, Cash and Kadhe have already collected eight wins during the Cowboys' fall slate this season. Four of this year's wins have come against ranked competition, including victories over No. 13 Felix Corwin and Matic Spec (Minnesota) and a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9) triumph over Oklahoma's 22nd-ranked Alex Ghilea and Spencer Papa to clinch the ITA Central Regional title.
Cash and Kadhe's selection marks the second straight year that the tandem has been selected to compete in the event. The Cowboy duo went 2-2 in last year's tournament as they squared off with some of the best talent in the nation.
The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships will once again be held in Flushing Meadows, New York, this year and are scheduled to begin on November 3.
