Cash and Kadhe Fall In ITA All-American Consolation Finals
October 10, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State tennis' No. 1-ranked duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe came up just short of winning their second consecutive back draw title at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships on Sunday.
In their first competitive matches of the 2016-17 season, Cash and Kadhe found themselves matched up with some of the nation's best doubles tandems throughout the week. Sunday's final proved to be the duo's toughest test to date though as they squared off with Rice's No. 8-ranked tandem of Tommy Bennett and David Warren. The Rice duo quickly got the upper hand in the matchup and were able to knock off the top-ranked Cash and Kadhe, 6-4, 6-2.
The loss brings OSU's week of competition at the ITA All-American Championships to an end, but the event did provide some highlights for a few Cowboys.
This week's event marked their first competition for Cash and Kadhe since being named the nation's No. 1 doubles tandem in the September 13 edition of the ITA Rankings. Facing some of the nation's best, the Cowboy tandem was able to secure three victories over ranked foes, including over No. 13 Felix Corwin and Matic Spec of Minnesota. Their victory over Corwin and Spec marked the 10th time that Cash and Kadhe have defeated a ranked opponent when teaming together and the No. 13 ranking also marks the highest ranked opponent that the pair has defeated.
Lukas Finzelberg was another OSU standout at this week's ITA All-American Championships. The German international strung together four straight victories, including three over ranked opponents, to advance through qualifying play and the first round of the main draw. In just two tournaments this fall, Finzelberg has already collected seven singles wins, including four victories against opponents in the top-100 of the ITA Rankings.
Next up for the Cowboys will be a trip to Harlingen, Texas where they will take part in Harlingen Country Club Men's $25,000 Futures event, which is slated to begin on October 17. Following their trip to Texas, OSU will be competing inside the Greenwood Tennis Center for the first time this season when they host the ITA Central Regional, beginning on October 20.
