January 05, 2016 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's tennis squad will open its spring season in the top 30, as they received the No. 28 ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.
Six of seven Cowboys who competed in the fall season received a spot in the rankings, with three Cowboys being ranked in singles and three Cowboy duos being ranked in doubles.
Headlining the rankings for Oklahoma State was All-American doubles duo Julian Cash/Arjun Kadhe who moved up five spots to No. 9, after being ranked No. 14 in the fall season.
The Cowboy duo put together one of the best fall seasons in recent history, as they won the back draw title at the ITA All-American Championships in October.
Oklahoma State duo Lukas Finzelberg/Jurence Mendoza check in at No. 53 in the ITA rankings, as teammates Tristan Meraut/Nathan Roper don't sit too far behind them at No. 56.
Three Pokes made their way into the singles rankings, with Cash being the highest ranked Cowboy at No. 68.
Cash dominated singles play in the fall season, as he became the first Cowboys since three-time All-American Oleksandr Nedovyesov in 2009 to compete in the main draw final for both singles and doubles at the ITA Regional Championships.
The other two Cowboys ranked in singles were the two-time All-American Kadhe at No. 112 and Mendoza at No. 85. This marks Mendoza's first appearance in the singles rankings, as he finished the fall season with a 6-3 record and a singles title at the Silverado Invitational.
The Cowboys will begin their spring season with a doubleheader at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Jan. 15, against UNLV at 2:30 p.m. and Creighton at 6:30 p.m.
