Step Inside The Film Room With ESPN And Jawun Evans
January 21, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER - People everywhere are talking about Jawun Evans, and rightfully so. The freshman guard has been at the top of box scores the previous four games, against four of the best teams in the Big 12.
Bedlam records:
Along with the praise from fans and media, Evans has also received plenty from teammates, coaches and opponents.
"He's a freshman, and you don't expect him to make tough shots," Oklahoma guard Buddy Hield said after Bedlam. "He's a great player and he's done a great job so far."
Hield isn't the only opponent to praise Evans, former Cowboy guard Bill Self had plenty to say as well after the team's 86-67 loss to Oklahoma State on Tuesday night.
"I think he's great," he said. "I think you can talk about other freshmen in the country and I think he's right up there, he's great. The thing that I like about him is he asserts himself, but he controls the game from an unselfish standpoint, too. He is so fast, and I don't know that we did an awful job on him. He had 22 (points) and eight (rebounds). I would say that he's really understanding how to play at this level and growing fast right now. People should be excited about him."
But it's Evans' coach, Travis Ford, who might have summed up what he has done for the team the best.
"He's the prototypical player who makes everybody around him better," he said after the Kansas win. "And in turn (he) does a good job for himself by scoring, but he opens up so much for everyday else."Â
