Cowboys Second Half Run Falls Short In Loss to Texas

Austin, Texas ---- Leyton Hammonds scored 18 points in a 74-69 loss to Texas on Saturday in the Erwin Center.
A Jawun Evans three with 14 seconds left cut the Texas lead to 70-67, but the Longhorns took advantage at the free throw line to secure the win.
The Longhorns led 49-28 at the first media timeout of the second half, but the Cowboys had a run of their own, too.
A Hammonds jumper cut the deficit to 53-41 with 10:35 remaining.
Tavarius Shine's three a couple minutes later made it 54-44 to cap the key 11-2 Oklahoma State run.
After a Texas three a few minutes later, Shine returned the favor with a three of his own to make it 59-49.
Another Shine three eventually cut the Texas lead to 64-60 with 3:15 left.
In first half, Oklahoma State struggled to score early, but still forced tough shots out of Texas.
After nine minutes, the Cowboys trailed 15-6.
A Jeffrey Carroll dunk with 8:24 reaming in the half cut the Longhorn lead to nine, and a pair of Mitchell Solomon free throws the following possession made it 19-12 Texas.
Later in the half, a powerful Anthony Allen dunk off the lob from Evans cut the deficit to 21-14 with 6:48 left till halftime.
Texas eventually led 49-25 at the half.
Isaiah Taylor led the way for Texas, as he scored 18 points.
Alongside Hammonds, Evans and Shine also led the way for the Cowboys. Evans finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Shine finished with 14 points on four-of-five shooting from behind the arc with the four three coming in the second half.
