Texas Postgame Notes
January 16, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
- The loss to the Longhorns ends OSU's two game win streak over Texas. The Cowboys took both of last year's meetings with the Longhorns, and had won six of the last seven overall. Texas owns a slight 47-41 edge in the overall series, including a 28-13 margin in Austin.
- OSU has dropped four straight games, and now finds itself at 1-4 in Big 12 play for the first time since 2007-08.
- Leyton Hammonds tallied a career-high nine rebounds and a team-high 18 points.
- Tavarius Shine had the best 3-point shooting night of his career, draining 4-of-5 from deep for a career-high 14 points. His 3-pointer from the top of the key with 3:20 on the clock cut the Texas lead to four, 64-60.
- Jawun Evans followed up his 42-point outburst against Oklahoma with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Only twice since 2000-01 has an OSU player followed up a game of 30 or more points with a 20-point performance in Big 12 play: Keiton Page in 2012 (40 vs. Texas, 29 at OU) and James Anderson in 2009 (35 at Texas, 27 vs. Iowa State).
- The Cowboys trailed by 15 points at the half, 40-25, which is the team's largest halftime deficit of the season and tied for the seventh largest in a Big 12 game. The last time OSU trailed by more than 15 in a Big 12 game was also at Texas, when the Longhorns led by 21 on Feb. 11, 2014.
- OSU has now trailed by double-digits at the half of its last four games.
- Both teams started the game on a cold streak, going a combined 2-of-13 from the floor over the game's first four minutes. OSU led 3-2 thanks to a Jeffrey Carroll 3-pointer from the right of the key. A 16-4 Texas run opened things up for the Longhorns shortly thereafter.
- Both Jawun Evans and Phil Forte won high school state titles in Texas' Frank Erwin Center, the annual site of the state high school tournament.
- The Cowboys started Jawun Evans, Jeff Newberry, Leyton Hammonds, Jeffrey Carroll and Mitchell Solomon for the third straight game.
- OSU has made at least one three-pointer in 501 consecutive games dating back to Jan. 13, 2001.
- The Cowboys have blocked at least one shot in every game this season, and entered tonight's contest ranked 45th nationally in blocked shots per game.
