Next Day Minute: Evans Rewrote Bedlam History Books
January 14, 2016 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER - If you attended, watched or listened to Bedlam last night, you experienced a historic performance from Oklahoma State's Jawun Evans during his first appearance in the in-state rivalry.
Evans started about as well as anyone could hope for, scoring nine of the team's first 12 points and eventually led the Cowboys with 19 points at halftime.
Evans finished with a career-high 42 points, and rewrote multiple record books in the close 74-72 loss to Oklahoma on Wednesday.
"You could kind of fell in the middle of the first half that he was kind of in the zone and playing well," Coach Travis Ford said. "Then he obviously continued into the second half and made a lot of big plays for us. What makes him a good player is he can score, he can pass, he rebounds, he does a little bit of everything. He has a good feel and understanding of what needs to be done."
After the game, Evans found himself in the Bedlam, Oklahoma State, Big 12 and NCAA record books for his scoring.
Bedlam records:
By the end of the night, he was also trending nationally on Twitter, and was being discussed on most every major sports radio and television show across the country come this morning. Â
"(Trending on Twitter) was really cool," he said. "My phone was freezing. I was getting so many text messages, and Instagram and Twitter notifications, there was a lot going on. I couldn't sleep because my phone kept vibrating."
Although he said he knew he had a good performance, Evans said it still hasn't fully hit him just how well of a game he had.
"Not really," he said. "I was just playing basketball and trying to help my team. That's all."
