Cowgirls Fall At TCU
September 27, 2015 | Cowgirl Soccer
FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma State suffered a 3-0 loss to TCU Sunday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
With the loss, OSU fell to 5-6-0 overall and finished the opening weekend of Big 12 Conference play with an 0-2-0 league mark.
TCU (8-4-0, 2-0-0) got a pair of goals from Michelle Prokof to propel the Frogs to their fourth consecutive win.
"We can't hang our heads – we're really, really disappointed in losing two games this week," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "You look at the scoreboard and it says 3-0 and it's disappointing, but it was a strange game. We did some good things, but we weren't good enough to win. When you give up, from our standpoint, somewhat easy goals and you don't capitalize on your opportunities, you're not winning any games in the Big 12."
The Frogs did not need long to get on the scoreboard. Just 1:51 into the match, the home team was awarded a penalty kick when Tori Ruszkowski took down a TCU player in the top corner of the box. Prokof would step up and bury penalty to make it 1-0.
The Cowgirls controlled much of the offensive possession in the opening half but couldn't get on the scoreboard despite recording nine shots. One of those attempts was a blast by Madison Mercado that caromed off the crossbar.
In the second half, Prokof doubled the Frogs' lead in the 56th minute. Emma Heckendorn sent a cross into the box that was deflected by OSU goalie Michela Ongaro, but the ball went right to TCU's leading scorer who sent it in for her second goal of the day and ninth of the season.
In the 70th minute, Faith Carter tallied TCU's third goal when she took a pass from Eryn Spencer and beat a charging Ongaro to the ball, putting it in the back of the net to make it 3-0.
OSU finished with a 14-12 advantage in shots and also recorded a 7-4 edge on corner kicks. Both goalies collected three saves.
The Cowgirls return to action Friday when OSU hosts Texas Tech at 7 p.m.
