Cowboy Tennis Brings Home Title From Silverado Invitational

NAPA, Calif. – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team won the team title on Sunday at the Silverado Invitational in Napa, California by collecting 12 total wins throughout the weekend.
The field included four teams that finished inside the top 60 of the 2015 ITA Rankings, including No. 28 Tulsa and No. 47 SMU.
Cowboys Jurence Mendoza and Tristan Meraut were crowned champions of their respective flights at lines two and three.
Mendoza clinched his crown with an impressive, 6-0, 6-3, victory over University of San Francisco's Vasco Valverde, which gave the junior a 3-0 singles record for the tournament.
On court five, Meraut defeated USF's Thomas Takemoto, 6-3, 6-4, to wrap up his flight and finish the tournament undefeated.
Oklahoma State's Lukas Finzelberg finished the tournament with two singles wins, including a dominant win this afternoon against USF's Nils Skajaa, 6-2, 6-2.
Cowboy Nathan Roper got his first singles win of the fall season by defeating USF's Ryan Marker, 7-6, 1-6, 10-5.
In doubles, Oklahoma State duo Finzelberg/Mendoza went back-and-forth with Don's Skajaa/Takemoto and would defeat the USF tandem, 8-6. The Cowboys finished the tournament with a 3-3 record in doubles.
Next up for Oklahoma State is the Cajun Classic in Lafayette, Louisiana on Sept. 24-27. Last year, Cowboy Arjun Kadhe finished runner-up in the tournament.
