August 24, 2015 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – Former Cowboy Paul LaBrue, a key member of Oklahoma State's 1965 Big Eight championship team, passed away late last week at the age of 72.
LaBrue had a standout senior season that included a 20-7 record and a trip to the Elite Eight. That year he shot 59.5 percent from the floor and poured in 5.4 points and 2.3 rebounds and hit 81.0 percent of his free throws.
"He was the sixth man," said LaBrue's OSU teammate, Gene Johnson, to Berry Tramel of the Oklahoman. "Very physical at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds. Excellent defender, leaper and rebounder who could hit the 15-, 18-foot shot, or if there was a crack in the defense, take it to the hole with authority. Clutch player, usually in the game during the last five minutes."
