Both Cowgirls Still Alive After Two Rounds At US Amateur Championship

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oklahoma State's Maddie McCrary is safely through to the knockout rounds while Cowgirl Kenzie Neisen will need a playoff to advance to match play at the 115th U.S. Women's Amateur championship hosted by the USGA at the Portland Golf Club this week.
McCrary turned in an even-par scorecard on the first day of competition, and finds herself tied for 24th place after a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. McCrary, who is a month removed from a five-shot victory in the Texas Women's Open, safely advanced to the match-play portion of the tournament, which begins Wednesday.
Neisen was in danger of missing the cut after shooting 77 in her opening round, but bounced back with a 1-under 71 on Tuesday. The 2015 Big 12 individual champion was one of 16 women tied for 55th place, and a playoff will take place at 9:15 a.m. Central to determine which 10 of them advance.
After the playoff, the original field of 156 golfers will be down to 64 and the tournament will shift from stroke play to a match-play format on Wednesday. The 36-hole final is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 16. McCrary and Neisen are joined by nine previous USGA champions on the 6,360-yard par-72 course.
