Jawun Evans and his USA Basketball teammates took down Croatia in the title game of the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships
GREECE – USA Basketball's rematch with Croatia in Sunday's title game of the FIBA U19 World Championships looked a lot different than the 103-81 thrashing the Americans doled out in group play last week.
This time it took until overtime for the athleticism and experience of the USA to take over.
The Americans scored the first 10 points of overtime and cruised to a 79-71 victory, which gave the USA back-to-back titles and made Jawun Evans the third OSU player to win a FIBA U19 World Championship.
Evans joins Marcus Smart (2013) and Matt Clark (1979) as Cowboys with FIBA U19 gold medals. The Americans are now six-time world champions, and have won back-to-back titles for the first time since winning the first two FIBA tournaments in 1979 and 1983.
A McDonald's and Parade All-American in high school, Evans finished the tournament averaging 2.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game. The USA was +68 points with Evans on the floor during the event's seven games, and his 19 assists were second on the team.
