Cowgirls Defeat Kansas in Quarterfinals, 4-0

WACO, Texas -- Oklahoma State's women's tennis team advanced to the Big 12 Championship semifinals after producing its sixth-straight shutout with a 4-0 win over No. 6 seed Kansas in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.
This marks the third-straight year the Cowgirls (21-4 overall) have advanced to the semifinals.
"I thought the girls played well today," coach Chris Young said. "They came and did what they needed to do. They competed really well. It's tough playing a team that you've already played before. They fought extremely hard today, and to advance is important."
Due to inclement weather, the match was delayed and moved indoors to the Hawkins Indoor Center. The match began with singles play and no doubles portion was contested.
Sophomore Carla Tur Mari gave the third-seeded Cowgirls a 1-0 lead with a dominating performance on court five against KU's Summer Collins. Tur Mari allowed the Jayhawk just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Maria Alvarez, a junior for the Pokes, added another team point with a win on court six. Alvarez took out Alexis Czapinski in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. She improved to 16-5 on the season.
Shortly after, No. 124 Katarina Adamovic quieted Smith Hinton on court two, extending OSU's lead to 3-0. The Cowgirl earned her 12th win of the spring with the 6-3, 6-3 victory.
On court one, No. 16 Viktoriya Lushkova secured the win and the Cowgirls spot in the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-3 win. Lushkova trailed 2-0 in the first set but shut down Luduena, winning the next six games to take the first set. She finished off the Jayhawk with a 6-3 win in the second set.
Play on courts three and four was not finished.
The Cowgirls are set to take on the winner of the Texas Tech-Oklahoma match on Saturday in the semifinals at a time to be determined.
