Two Cowboys Headed to NCAA Individual Championships
May 19, 2015 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State's Jakob Sude and Arjun Kadhe will wrap up their 2014-15 campaign this week at the NCAA men's tennis individual championships at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. The two Cowboys will team up for the doubles portion and Sude will also compete in the singles bracket.
This is the first time since 2008 that the Cowboys have qualified both a singles player as well as a doubles team for the NCAA Championships.
Sude and Kadhe (10-9), who hold a No. 24 ranking, will make their second-straight NCAA doubles championship appearance together. Last season, the Cowboys earned All-America honors after taking out eighth-ranked Pieters/Wagland of Georgia in the round of 16. Sude and Kadhe continued on to the semifinals, where they fell in a tough match to No. 3 Metka/Kobelt of Ohio State.
This year, the pair will start the tournament facing Ben Lock and Marco Nunez of Florida State (14-7) on Thursday. The time is to be determined.
On the singles side, Sude looks to put the cherry on top of a great collegiate career as he makes his first appearance in the singles bracket. The senior put together a 10-8 singles record during an exciting spring season that saw him knock off the nation's No. 1 player Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas. Sude is the first Cowboy to qualify for the singles tournament since 2010 when Oleksandr Nedovyesov was selected.
He will face 95th-ranked Daniel Leitner of South Alabama on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. The winner of that match will face the winner of No. 4 Andrew Harris (OU) and No. 24 Wayne Montgomery (UGA) on Thursday.
In order to earn All-America status, the Cowboy must win two matches.
