WACO, Texas -- Oklahoma State's Jakob Sude advanced to the round of 32 at the NCAA men's tennis singles tournament after he defeated No. 95 Daniel Leitner of South Alabama in the first round, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
The Cowboy senior improved to 13-10 on the year and notched his fifth win over a ranked opponent this season.
In the first set, Sude and Leitner stayed on serve, producing a 3-3 start. Sude then took charge of the match, winning the next three games to take the first set.
Leitner responded winning the first five games of the second set to take a 5-0 lead. The Cowboy snatched a game, but it was not enough as he fell 6-1, forcing the match to a third set.
To begin the third, the two traded breaks bringing the match to 4-3 in favor of the Poke. Sude pulled away after one last break to go up 5-3, with the chance to serve for the win, which he did to earn his first NCAA singles tournament win.
The Cowboy will take on Guillermo Nunez of TCU tomorrow in the round of 32. A win would give the Cowboy his first All-America honor in singles.
Sude will also pair up with teammate Arjun Kadhe as returning All-Americans in the doubles tournament tomorrow as they take on Benjamin Lock and Marco Nunez of Florida State tomorrow.
Both matches are at a time to be determined.
