Sude and Kadhe Make History, Advance to NCAA Quarterfinals

WACO, Texas -- For the first time in program history, an Oklahoma State men's tennis doubles team has earned two career All-America honors as Cowboy standouts Jakob Sude and Arjun Kadhe took out the No. 21 Marko Krickovic and Lukas Ollert tandem of Auburn in three sets in the round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championship on Friday.
"We're having a solid tournament overall," coach Jay Udwadia said. "Arjun and Jakob really earned their match today against a great Auburn team. The last game was spectacular tennis. They are doing a great job representing OSU on the national scene. We will enjoy the win today and get ready to play again tomorrow."
The doubles match was one that exhibited the Cowboys' heart as the duo fell in the first set 6-4. Sude and Kadhe battled back against a tough Auburn team to take the second set 6-3. The match was forced to a third and final set where the Cowboys outlasted Auburn in an exciting 10 games. The OSU team broke Krickovic and Ollert at 3-3 to take the lead. They held serve to go up 5-3, but Auburn responded with a hold of its own, bringing the match to 5-4. Kadhe served out the match in an incredible game that saw the Cowboys save two break points and the Tigers save two match points. It was Sude and Kadhe who prevailed in the end, to earn their second All-America honor as a duo and advance to the quarterfinals.
"We stayed positive until the end, and we believed in ourselves," Kadhe said. "In the third set, my last game serving, I think that was probably the best doubles I've played. It was one of the tightest, not because of bad play but because everyone was playing above their level. It was something really awesome to be a part of. Earning All-American twice in doubles is an honor. It's a good thing, and we can't stop now. We have a tough opponent tomorrow. We are so thankful to Greenwoods and all of the staff and teammates for their support. We are thankful for all of those standing behind us. We didn't have the best start at the beginning of the year, but we are making it count in the end."
The win put Sude's name in the Cowboy history books for another reason as he becomes only the second player in program history to earn All-America honors in singles and doubles during his career, and like Pavel Kudrnac, who accomplished the feat in 1998, he did it at the same NCAA tournament.
Senior Jakob Sude wrapped up his collegiate singles career on Friday afternoon, suffering a 6-2, 6-4 loss to No. 9 Quentin Monaghan of Notre Dame in the round of 16.
In his two years as a Cowboy, Sude made a huge impact, playing at the No. 1 spot. The Cowboy compiled a 24-21 career record in singles with 14 of those wins coming this season, 12 of which were won in straight sets. The 2014-15 campaign also saw him knock off six ranked opponents, including then-No. 1 Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-2. He also reached a career-high singles ranking this year, when he was tabbed as the No. 32 player in the nation on May 1.
"It hasn't sunk in that earlier today was my last singles match for OSU," Sude said. "It was a tough match. I actually beat him earlier this year. Monaghan is No. 9 for a reason. I'm so happy so far with the tournament, and it's an honor to be on the wall in the Greenwood Tennis Center as an All-American. That's something special and to become the first doubles team to do what we did is awesome. I'm thankful to be able to leave my mark on the program as a player."
The Cowboy tandem will be back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m. as they take on 19th-ranked Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas in the quarterfinals. The two teams met up earlier this year as the Cowboys were edged out in a tiebreaker.
