Nedovyesov Qualifies for Wimbledon Main Draw

LONDON – Former Oklahoma State tennis phenom Oleksandr Nedovyesov won three matches of the Wimbledon qualifying tournament to advance to the singles main draw, which will be held June 29-July 12.
In his first-round match, he took on No. 114 Mirza Basic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who he defeated in under an hour with a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 win.
Representing Kazakhstan, Nedovyesov moved on to face Australia's Jason Kubler in the second round. Kubler, who holds a No. 171 ranking, took the first set, 6-3, but the former Cowboy stormed back to take the next two sets, 6-3, 6-4, respectively.
Nedovyesov, currently ranked No. 122 in singles, secured his place in the main draw when he took three sets from No. 231 Yannick Mertens of Belgium, 7-6(7), 6-3, 6-4, in the third round.
This marks Nedovyesov's second-straight year to make a Wimbledon main draw appearance. In the 2014 championships, he fell in the first round to Lu Yen-hsun.
The Cowboy earned a career-high ATP singles ranking of 72 in April 2014.
