June 27, 2015 | Cowboy Basketball
CRETE, Greece โ Future Oklahoma State point guard Jawun Evans made his international debut in USA Basketball's 83-53 win over Iran to open the U19 FIBA World Championships at the Heraklion Arena in Greece.
Evans was one of the first off the bench for the star-studded USA lineup, and tallied his first assist within seconds. The USA was +26 points with Evans on the floor, which was the team's best performance. Evans added six assists, three steals, two rebounds and three points in just over 14 minutes.
The USA will take on Croatia on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. Central, and Egypt on Tuesday at 8 a.m. Central. A free webcast of all the games of the FIBA World Championships are available at Youtube.com/FIBA.
By stepping onto the floor Saturday, Evans became the third Cowboy to play for the U19 USA Basketball squad. Matt Clark (1979) and Marcus Smart (2013) both won FIBA World Championships with the U19 squad.
In all, 20 OSU players have suited up for USA Basketball at all age levels and six Cowboy coaches have represented the country on the international stage at some point in their careers.
