Evans Looking To Make USA Basketball History Saturday
June 24, 2015 | Cowboy Basketball
GREECE – Oklahoma State Cowboys have their fingerprints all over the U19 USA Basketball squads that won gold at the FIBA World Championships, and Jawun Evans is hoping to add his name to that list starting this weekend.
Former Cowboy Matt Clark was a part of the 1979 gold medal squad, while Marcus Smart led the 2013 team to a title. Thanks to Smart and his teammates, Evans and the 2015 USA Basketball team have a chance to compete for the first back-to-back titles since Clark hoisted the trophy in 1979 and the USA followed up again in 1983.
USA Basketball will see its first official action in the 2015 FIBA World Championships against Iran on Saturday in Crete, Greece, and the future Oklahoma State guard has been soaking in the experience since arriving for training camp.
"This has been an unbelievable experience, and I couldn't be more excited to represent my country and Oklahoma State on the international stage," Evans said. "Playing with and against such great competition will only help me learn how to take my game to another level for when I get back to OSU."
You can follow all of the action of the future Cowboys guard from your couch. Follow @USABasketball on Twitter for live scoring updates, or head to YouTube.com/FIBA to watch the live webcast.
