Freshman Wing Showed Promise By Coming On Strong In Season's Crunch Time
STILLWATER - The jump from high school to high-major college hoops can be pretty tough, but Tavarius Shine showed the Gallagher-Iba Arena faithful why he's going to be a staple in Stillwater.
Let's take a look at some of Shine's accolades from his solid freshman campaign.
• OSU's first wing player off the bench, whose length proved helpful on both ends of the floor.
• Posted 16 steals on the year, which was tops among OSU's reserve players.
• Proved a capable threat from 3-point with a mark of 31.8 percent from deep (21-of-66). That clip ranked fifth among OSU players last year.
• Posted a season-best 12-points (3-of-6 from 3-point) and two assists against Oregon in the NCAA Tournament.
• Scored a then-season-high 11 points (4-of-5 shooting overall, 3-of-3 from deep) in the Cowboys win over Baylor in Stillwater.
• Also had 10 points in the Cowboys' win over Tulsa.
• A solid contributor in his 13.1 minutes per game, Shine put up 11 games with at least five points.
• Went for eight points two rebounds in OSU's win over Kansas State and added eight more points at Iowa State.
• Collected eight rebounds against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
• Finished his freshman campaign with averages of 3.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.5 steals per game.
• Saw action in all 32 games for the Cowboys.
