STILLWATER - For the third time this season, Oklahoma State senior guard Anthony Hickey was honored as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Hickey averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds in OSU's games against TCU and West Virginia last week. He shot .609 pct. from the field and drained 9-of-12 from three point range (.750 pct.)
In the Cowboys' win over the Horned Frogs, Hickey scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-for-4 shooting from distance. He added five assists against no turnovers. Three days later against the Mountaineers, Hickey went for 17 points and seven assists. He knocked down 5-of-8 three-pointers.
Hickey has had the hot hand of late. As recently as January 27, he averaged 8.5 points per game on the year, but since the calendar turned to February, he has averaged 12.7 points on .512 pct. shooting from the field and .556 shooting from three-point range.
Hickey and the Cowboys compete at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship at the Sprint Center in Kansas City this week. The sixth-seeded Cowboys face third-seeded Oklahoma in the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. CT Thursday on ESPNU.
