Cowboys Earn Big 12 Postseason Honors
March 08, 2015 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER - Oklahoma State's Le'Bryan Nash earned a spot on the All-Big 12 second team, Phil Forte was named to the third team, Anthony Hickey and Michael Cobbins were All-Defensive selections and Hickey was a member of the All-Newcomer team, the conference office announced today.
Nash has been recognized as All-Big 12 in some capacity every year of his career, but this year's second-team honor is the highest honor he has received. He was a member of the third team in 2013 and earned honorable mention in 2012 and 2014. Nash finished the regular season ranked second in the league with 16.8 points per game and was No. 1 in the Big 12 in both free throws made and free throws attempted. His 1,794 career points are the most of any active player in the Big 12, as are his 28 career games of scoring 20 points or more.
For Forte, it's the first All-Big 12 recognition of his career, though he was the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year in 2014. Forte ranks among the conference leaders in a variety of categories this season, averaging 15.5 points, 1.93 steals and 33:30 minutes played per game. He's also near the top of the league in free throws made, free throw percentage, and three-point field goals made. Despite being the primary focus of every defense OSU faced, Forte reached double-figure scoring totals in all but two games this season.
Cobbins earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Defensive team for the second time in his career after ranking second in the league with 1.85 blocked shots per game. He also secured all-defensive recognition in 2013.
A transfer from LSU, Hickey joined Cobbins on the Big 12 All-Defensive team and was also on the Big 12 All-Newcomer team. Hickey averaged 9.9 points, 3.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game in conference play and knocked down .446 pct. of his three-point attempts against Big 12 opposition.
Hickey and Cobbins' inclusion on the Big 12 All-Defensive team makes it so five Oklahoma State players have earned that recognition in the past three seasons alone.
The Cowboys are the No. 6 seed at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship in Kansas City next week and draw No. 3 Oklahoma on Thursday.
