A Look Back
On this weekend last year, the OSU track and field program went to the 2014 Texas Relays and the Arkansas Spring Invitational.
Ieva Zarankaite took third in the discus at the Texas Relays, with a launch of 52.69m/172-10, which moved her into the No. 2 spot on OSU's all-time list.
In the men's 100-meter dash, John Teeters took 13th place, finishing in 10:54. Entering the weekend, Teeters' time was No. 20 in the NCAA, and the best mark in the Big 12.
In the men's shot put, Itamar Levi finished in 11th place with a mark of 16.66m/54-8.
In the women's shot put, Chase Ealey had a toss of 14.95m/49-0¾ to finish in ninth.
In Fayetteville, Ark., Monika Juodeskaite placed second in the 1,500 meters to lead the OSU track & field teams at the Arkansas Spring Invitational last year.
Juodeskaite, whose specialty is the longer distance races, showed she could still compete in the middle distance events as well, running a 4:32.25 to take second in the race.
On the men's side, Tyler Payton led the way for the Cowboys, taking second overall in the 800 meters, with a time of 1:51.93. Ryan Wheatley won section two of the event, finishing in 1:53.55.
Cowboys, Cowgirls Debut in Top-15
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's preseason outdoor top-25 was released Tuesday with both the Cowgirls and Cowboys making history by debuting together in the top-25 for the first time.
Fresh off a third consecutive top-15 finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships, the Cowboys came in at No. 12 in the preseason rankings. The nod gives OSU it's highest outdoor preseason ranking ever and its first preseason top-25 spot since it was No. 22 in 2013.
Success on the national stage in recent years has the OSU men's team slotted as the third-highest ranked Big 12 team behind No. 5 Texas and 10th-ranked Texas Tech.
The Cowgirls joined the Cowboys and came in at 14 in the women's rankings, claiming their first preseason top-25 spot and their highest ranking in the outdoor season ever.
The rankings puts OSU in elite company, making the track and field program one of three big 12 programs to have a men's and women's team in the top-15.
Ealey No. 1 in School History
Chase Ealey went into the Tulsa Duels with the second-best mark in the women's shot put in school history. On March 21, Ealey threw an incredible 16.73m/54-10.75 to break the decade-old outdoor school record. Ealey's performance gave her the top spot in three events - the outdoor and indoor shot put and the javelin.
Earlier in the indoor season, Ealey also set the record for the indoor shot put and qualified for nationals where she received second-team All-America honors.
Ealey's mark is currently the best in the Big 12 and in the NCAA this season.
