Inside the Numbers - Oklahoma State at Baylor
February 09, 2015 | Cowboy Basketball
WACO, Texas - The No. 21 Oklahoma State men's basketball team is in Waco for tonight's 6 p.m. clash with No. 16 Baylor in the Ferrell Center. Some notes and a head-to-head comparison to get you prepped for tonight's Big 12 battle:
An Oklahoma State Win Would...
► Mark its fourth in the last six meetings with Baylor and its first in Waco since a 66-48 victory in 2006.
► Give the Cowboys their first regular-season sweep of the Bears since 2006.
► Improve the Cowboys to 7-0 against teams from the state of Texas this season.
► Be its fifth over an opponent ranked in the top 25 of the Associated Press poll this season. The Cowboys previously beat No. 8 Kansas, No. 10 Texas and No. 20 Baylor in Stillwater and went on the road to top the No. 25 Longhorns in Austin.
► Mark just the third time in school history that the Cowboys have beaten opponents ranked in the top 25 of the Associated Press poll in three consecutive games. The previous two times came during NCAA Tournament runs to the 1995 and 2004 Final Fours, respectively. It has never happened for OSU in three consecutive regular season games.
► Mark the fourth time in school history and the first time since 2003-04 that OSU has beaten at least five teams ranked in the Associated Press top 25 in the same season. The Cowboys beat five ranked teams in 1950-51, seven in 1991-92, eight in 1994-95 and nine in 2003-04.
► Mark the Cowboys' sixth over a team with an RPI in the top 50 and their ninth over a team with an RPI in the top 100 this season.
► Mark the 20th time that OSU has beaten an opponent ranked in the top 25 of the Associated Press poll since Travis Ford took over as head coach in 2008-09.

Noting the Last Meeting
► Baylor went on an 11-0 run early in the game, but the Cowboys weathered the storm and closed out the first half on a 24-8 run to take a 30-21 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The Pokes drained 5-of-10 attempts from three-point range in the opening stanza and held an 18-15 advantage on the boards against a Baylor team that entered the game ranked third nationally in rebounding margin. In its previous five games, OSU had struggled in the first half, converting on .331 pct. from the field and .240 pct. from three prior to intermission. The Pokes shot .462 pct. from the field and .500 pct. from deep in the first half against the Bears.
► Perhaps Baylor's biggest strength entering the game was rebounding. The Bears averaged an offensive rebound on 43.8 percent of their missed shots before their game at OSU and ranked in the top six nationally in rebounding margin, rebounds per game and offensive rebounds per game. Against the Cowboys, Baylor managed only a 35-34 rebounding advantage and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds on 36 misses (.361 pct.)
► Oklahoma State's defense successfully derailed the Baylor offense, as the Bears managed only .345 pct. shooting from the field against OSU, well down from the .387 pct. shooting they averaged in Big 12 play prior to their date with the Cowboys.
► Tavarius Shine set a new career high with 11 points. He was four-of-five from the field and three-for-three from three-point range. His previous career best was a 10-point effort in OSU's win over Tulsa in Las Vegas.
► Anthony Hickey set a new career high with 10 assists. That total was the most for a Cowboy since Marcus Smart had 10 against Texas Tech last season.
► Michael Cobbins grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds and matched a career high by blocking five shots.
