Cowgirl Tennis Falls to No. 7 Alabama

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team, ranked No. 16 in the nation, fell to 6-2 on the season after a tough 4-0 loss against No. 7 Alabama at the ITA Team Indoor Nationals on Saturday.
“Today was another learning experience for us, and we will be better for having played Alabama,” coach Chris Young said. “They are very disciplined and compete well. We've face two exceptional teams so far, and tomorrow will be no different.
The Cowgirls dropped a tight doubles point, losing on two of the three courts.
Vladica Babic and Katarina Adamovic teamed up to dominate on court two, where they took out the Spielmann/Zabor duo, 6-0.
After a loss on court three, the doubles came down to court one, where the fifth-ranked duo of Viktoriya Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente suffered their first loss of the spring season to the defending national champions, Routliffe and Jansen. The Cowgirl duo fell behind early, 5-2, but fought back, winning three more games; however, it was not enough as Bama won the match, 7-5.
In singles, the Cowgirls were not able to overcome the Tide's power as they fell on courts three, five and six in hard-fought matches.
Play was unfinished on courts one, two and four.
On court one, No. 10 Lushkova met up with No. 25 Erin Routliffe. The Alabama player took the first set, 6-0, but the Cowgirl All-American responded with a 7-5 win in the second. The third set was 2-1 in favor of Routliffe when play ended.
Kelsey Laurente hung in with No. 56 Danielle Spielmann on court two, while Vladica Babic split sets with Emily Zabor on court four by the time the match ended.
The Cowgirls will play their final match of the tournament on Sunday at 8 a.m. CT against No. 11 Vanderbilt.
