Oklahoma State Coach Travis Ford
General comments:
"We went on a drought and didn't score for seven minutes. They took advantage of that seven minutes to get some offensive rebounds and made a run to get the score back and to tie at halftime.
We're struggling in second halves right now, immensely. I don't know why at this point, we'll figure it out. We'll answer the challenge, we're going to answer the challenge. I'm not promising wins, but we're going to get guys out there who are going to fight, play and dedicate themselves and do the things off the court and on the court that will give ourselves a chance.
For the last couple of games it's not about scouting report, it's just coming down to teams whipping us. We talk about offensive rebounding and keeping the other team from getting second-chance points, that's part of scouting report, but that is will and desire. I told our team, 'maybe we would've turned it over 100 times tonight, but I never would've thought that we would've given up offensive rebounds after the last game tonight,' that is what is disappointing.
We have to find out why we are not playing in the second-half and get the right guys out there that can compete. Right now we are not competing in the second-half and we have to find an answer to that."
On facing West Virginia's pressure defense:
"It's a tough game for us. We do not have a lot of great one-on-one players. We're not blessed with guys creating their own shots and they make you do that. With that said, we have some guys that should have had a career night tonight.
For whatever reason we didn't attack enough. We were retreating, we worked on it and we did it every day (in practice). We started out with understanding what we were supposed to do. Then we had guys trying to run away from their defense rather than attacking their defense."
Oklahoma State Guard Anthony Hickey
On what changed in the second half:
"We had a couple possessions where we didn't get a good shot. I think they turned up their defense a little bit. We were able to get open shots, but we weren't able to knock them down. Even myself, I had a couple turnovers at the beginning. They were just competing more in the second half and I think we let off a little bit. We turned the ball over a little bit more and they out rebounded us a little bit."
On preparing for the press:
"We were prepared. I think they just got a couple deflections on the ball. I know my balls got a couple deflections. We've just got to make the solid play. We got a couple people open, we just have to see the open man and when we get that open shot, we have to be able to capitalize."
On trying to find a rhythm with all the foul calls:
"We had an opportunity to make our run. We had an opportunity and we just didn't take advantage of it. We cut it to eight and then we fouled. It was just small errors whenever you're down, you have to keep playing and keep competing and play without fouling."
On having a sense of urgency after losing three in a row:
"We have been to the highest point and now we are at the lowest point again. It's all about what do we want from here on out. It's not the coaches' fault, it's the players' fault. They can only coach so much. Even myself and Cobbins as seniors, we have to step up and get this team back and rolling. We've got to do some soul searching. Just watching the fans leave is on us. We have to get them engaged and get them wins and get them some excitement. We've got three more games and this is my last home game coming up. We just have to turn this thing around the best way we can. We've just got to find a way."
Oklahoma State Forward Michael Cobbins
On the stretch West Virginia had early in the second half:
"We just kind of went on a drought. Shots weren't falling for us and they were falling for them. They kind of picked up the intensity a little bit and they just made a run right there."
On trying to find a rhythm with all the foul calls:
"It's just tough to stop the game. Those are things that can be corrected, fouling issues. Those will be corrected from next game and we will bounce back from this."
On having the extra week off to regroup:
"It's time to do a little soul searching and we need to find out how bad we really want it. This week off will actually give us time to sit down and do that."
On the team's morale:
"I feel like it can all be corrected. It's not really time to panic or anything because you don't want to go into each game panicking. When you go into a game panicking, things start to go opposite. We need to approach these games with a positive mindset and a ready-to-work attitude."
West Virginia Coach Bob Huggins
On the victory over Oklahoma State:
"We toughed out on that one. We've talked about offensive rebounding the past two games. We've got to continue to get more shots, too."
On Gary Browne:
"I thought Browne was very good. He made some huge shots for us. It says he went 3-for-9, but it seemed like, just watching the game, that every shot went in."
On Daxter Miles Jr.:
"Dax got us going. Dax made two huge threes for us to get us going."
On building off today's game:
"We've just got to play harder. Gary made some big shots for us and Dax made some big shots for us. If our bench could score more consistently, we would be a lot better of a team."
On Juwan Staten's impact:
"If you look at BillyDee's stats, his points came off everybody trying to run up on Juwan. That was the biggest thing. When we took Juwan out, we tried to do the same thing with Gary, but we got a little stagnant."
On Le'Bryan Nash:
"He's good. He made a couple plays to start the second half and I had to put three guys on him."
On West Virginia's upcoming games:
"I hope those maniacs, those students, keep doing what they're doing. I thought last game had a great atmosphere. Even with the inclement weather, those students showed up in a throng and I hope they continue to do that"
