STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team defeated Kansas, 80-76, on Saturday night in front of 2,705 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena to run its winning streak to five in a row.
For the Cowgirls, who improved to 18-8 overall and 8-7 in Big 12 play, the victory was their seventh consecutive over the Jayhawks, who fell to 13-15 and 4-11.
Despite allowing its highest point total since November, OSU's offense produced its first 80-point outing since December to give the Cowgirls their first five-game winning streak in Big 12 play since January of last season.
OSU led for much of the contest, but could not pull away from KU, which shot 48 percent for the game and connected on nine of its 17 3-point attempts.
After leading 37-31 at the break, the Cowgirls scored the first bucket of the second half before the Jayhawks knotted the contest with an 8-0 run. OSU countered with a 9-0 run to take its largest lead at 48-39 with 14:55 to go.
However, the Jayhawks responded with the game's next six points and took their first lead of the half with eight minutes remaining on a 3-pointer from Natalie Knight. After a Knight free throw put KU in front 60-59 three minutes later, the Cowgirls answered with back-to-back layups to move back in front for good.
Senior Liz Donohoe led all scorers with 22 points and added three rebounds to become just the fourth player in program history to record 1,600 points and 800 rebounds during her career.
Junior Brittney Martin tallied her second double-double in the last three games, finishing with 21 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Senior LaShawn Jones added 19 points and eight rebounds.
Knight led the Jayhawks with 20 points on a 6-of-10 shooting effort.
OSU will be back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when it travels to Austin, Texas to take on the Texas Longhorns.
