Last Time Out
John Teeters continued to dazzle in the 60 meter dash Friday at the Tyson Invitational. He broke his own school record by putting up a blazing 6.52, good enough for ninth all-time in NCAA history.
British champion Nick Miller won the weight throw event with a 22.46m/73-8.25 mark giving him his third top two finish of the indoor season.
Chad Noelle set a career-best mile time of 3:57.78, finishing first among collegiate competitors at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday. That time ranks as the third-best in school history.
Noelle was the first of three Cowboys to run sub-four minute miles at the ISU Classic, as Vegard Oelstad and Matthew Fayers also set new career bests in the same event. Oelstad finished in 3:58.79 and Fayers finished in 3:59.55, ranking No. 5 and No. 9, respectively, on OSU's all-time best list.
At the Husky Classic in Seattle, Fabian Clarkson and Craig Nowak finished sixth and 10th, respectively, in the men's 3,000 meter run. Clarkson finished the race in 7:50.49, ranking as the third fastest 3K in school history. Nowak's 7:56.36 was the ninth best in school history.
Brian Gohlke and Luis Martinez also had solid outings in the men's 3,000 meter run. Gohlke's time of 8:11.21 ranks as the ninth fastest in the Big 12 this year, and Martinez set a new career best with a time of 8:13.03 mark.
The women's team was just as impressive, highlighted by outstanding performances from Jennifer Celis, Kaela Edwards, Kaylee Dodd and Ingeborg Loevnes.
Shattering her previous personal best with a time of 4:40.69 in the women's mile in Seattle, Celis now ranks No. 4 all-time in the mile at OSU and has the third-fastest time in the Big 12.
At the ISU Classic in Ames, Edwards continued her impressive season with a time of 2:03.70 and a third place finish in the 800 meters. That marks a new career best for her, is third on the NCAA qualifying list and improves on her second best all-time mark in school history, trailing only teammate Natalja Piliusina.
Dodd also recorded a top 10 school mark in the 800 at the Husky Classic, putting up a time of 2:06.30 for sixth on the list. Clara Nichols finished right behind her at 2:06.47, but already ranks fourth all-time at OSU with her personal best of 2:06.25.
Loevnes at the Husky Classic also had a top-10 Big 12 mark of 9:30.29 in the 3,000 meters. Janelle Martinez reached a new career best in the 3,000, finishing in 9:52.20 and beating her previous time by three seconds.
A Look Back
The Oklahoma State men's distance medley relay team qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships at last year's Alex Wilson Invitational, in South Bend, Ind.
The team of Tyler Payton, Chad Noelle, Shane Moskowitz and Kirubel Erassa, which was responsible for a combined six track and field All-American honors, raced like it, putting up a blistering time of 9:29.91, which missed the school record by 1.5 seconds. The mark ranked No. 7 in the NCAA.
That was the second-straight year in which OSU had qualified a distance medley relay team at the Alex Wilson Invite.
On the women's side, Clara Nichols ran a then personal-best 2:06.56 in the 800 meters that moved her up to No. 19 in the NCAA.
Viktoriia Sadokhina took second in the long jump, with a mark of 12.74m/41-9.75.
Cowboys Ranked Among the Top 10
After an outstanding performance at three different meets last weekend, the Oklahoma State men's track and field team has landed in the top 10 of this week's USTFCCCA rankings, reaching the No. 9 spot for its highest ranking of the season.
The Cowboys jumped eight spots after impressive outings at the Iowa State Invitational, Husky Classic and Tyson Invitational. OSU is now the second highest ranked team in the Big 12, trailing only No. 5 Texas.
It marks the squad's highest ranking since it was No. 6 in the final rankings last season. Both the men's and women's squads own 38 top-10 marks within the Big 12 this year, including six No. 1 marks and 15 top-three marks.
The Fastest Man in the Country
On Feb. 13, Cowboy sprinter John Teeters provided yet another dazzling display in the 60 meter dash, as the junior ran a 6.52 at the Tyson Invitational, breaking his own school record. Teeters now has sole possession of the best time in the NCAA this season.
1. John Teeters Oklahoma State 6.52 2/14/15
2. Trayvon Bromell Baylor 6.54 1/23/15
3. Jalen Miller Mississippi 6.55 1/30/15
4. Kendal Williams Florida State 6.57 2/13/15
5. Christian Coleman Tennessee 6.58 2/6/15
5. Ronnie Baker TCU 6.58cA 1/31/15
To put Teeters' time in perspective, in last year's NCAA Indoor Championships, Florida State's Dentarius Locke ran 6.52 to win the 60 meter final. Teeters' performance is tied for ninth on the all-time NCAA list.
A Rising Star
On Jan. 10, Oklahoma State cross country standout Cerake Geberkidane finished second in the men's junior race at the Great Edinburgh International Cross Country Meet, helping team USA win its first overall team title at the event.
Geberkidane, a freshman in his first season of collegiate competition, completed the 6K course in 20:07, besting several of the world's elite junior athletes.
The Denver, Colo., native followed that performance on Feb. 7 with a runner-up finish in the junior race at the 2015 USA Cross Country Championships. He finished the 8K course in 25:37 and is now qualified to represent the United States at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in China March 28.
Miller Smashes Meet Record
Oklahoma State's season-opening appearance at the K-State Winter Invitational was highlighted by one of the Cowboys' most decorated talents; senior Nick Miller. Miller took first in the weight throw with a toss of 22.56m/74-0.25, breaking the previous meet record (21.44m/70-04.25m - Jason Gervais, Wyoming, 1999) by almost four feet.
Rewriting the Record Books
On Feb. 13 and 14, the OSU track and field team had its biggest weekend of the 2014-15 indoor season with 43 athletes competing in three different meets. Several athletes recorded career bests and others recorded some of the best marks in OSU school history.
John Teeters ran a school record 6.52 60 meter dash at the Tyson Invitational. His time broke his own school record (6.54) and ranks ninth all time in NCAA history.
Three OSU mile runners recorded sub-four minute times at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 14. Chad Noelle's 3:57.78 was the fastest time by a collegiate athlete in the event and was the second fastest time in school history. Vegard Oelstad also recorded a historic mark, finishing his mile in 3:58.79, good for sixth in school history.
In the 3,000 meter run, Fabian Clarkson ran ran the third fastest time in OSU history with a 7:50.49 at the Husky Classic.
Kaela Edwards' 2:03.70 was her career best and also kept her at second in school history in the 800 meter run.
