OSU Head Coach Jim Littell
Opening Statement
"I am really proud of our basketball team. I thought we showed great energy and great fight. We told our players that this team on paper is probably a mismatch for us, they are long, they're athletic. They've got a lot of heralded players and we told them that we have to come in and out hustle them and compete and play hard. I thought both teams fought very hard, but our kids really competed for 40 minutes tonight. We held the rebound battle very close, that was a key to the game. We've concentrated on it for about two weeks of not fouling, wall-up, get your hands up, don't foul and don't send people to the free throw line. When we won at Iowa State, they shot eight free throws. When we won at KU (Kansas) they shot 10. Tonight they (Texas) shot two. Playing the zone helped us out with that. We didn't give up many second chance opportunities, we won the battle on that. A huge factor on that was forcing 23 turnovers and we only had 10. We had a big performance by Liz Donohoe tonight, when she is looking to catch and shoot she is a really good player. Brittney Martin hit some big buckets down the stretch of the game. LaShawn Jones getting 16 is huge for us. We're feeding right now off of the little one, Roddricka Patton, she is coming in and providing a lot of energy for our team. To have 10 assists and no turnovers, we're very proud of what she has accomplished."
On starting Roddricka Patton
"She has always brought energy. We don't have anyone that plays on our team harder than Rod, but had been turning it over quite a bit and lately she has got a better feel of what we want. She has eliminated a lot of her turnovers and that is indicative of tonight. She earned a start tonight because of what she did against Kansas. We were down 23-8 when we put her in the game and she turned the whole ballgame around. She earned it and Ro (Roshunda Johnson) was sick as well. That was another factor as well.
On LaShawn Jones
"Shaq (LaShawn Jones) is a key part of this team and for her to step up and get 16 points and finish some key shots. We're average if Shaq doesn't play. She has to play for us and every time that she steps up and plays well our team plays well. I said it a year ago that she is the x-factor for this team and I'm not so sure that she still isn't the x-factor. When she plays well it takes our team to a different level.
OSU guard Brittney Martin
On the win against Texas
"We need all the wins we can get so this win was very big for us, especially because it was Texas."
On Roddricka Patton
"She's a little fireball, so anytime she does something she's excited for everybody and for herself. We were excited, I can say I was definitely excited. She comes in no matter if she starts or comes in afterward. She's always that person we can look toward for energy, she never stops."
On Liz Donohoe's performance
"We need her, we need her to shoot. Coach tells her that everyday, just shoot the ball. Everybody tells her, anytime she gets it just shoot it. She knows she needs to, so I'm excited that she's finally getting into the game and doing what we need her to do."
OSU center LaShawn Jones
On her last few games
"I know that usually when I play badly the outcome isn't that good. I take it to heart because I want to play hard for my team."
On her performance against Texas
"Well usually I don't come out that well, I think I came out way better than I usually do. I just decided to be more focused during the game. I was more focused and ready to play."
On playing against Texas' height
"That's what we put a lot of emphasis on, just being more aggressive. We wanted to make them foul us so we could get to the free throw line."
Texas Head Coach Karen Aston
Opening Statement
"I thought our team got off to a really good start. We called a timeout and we had two or three possessions in a row where we missed some layups and some real easy shots that could have extended the lead, and once we let them back in the game it gave them confidence. You can't really do that on somebody's home court. As much as I was pleased with the first four minutes, we didn't sustain what we were doing. I thought that they played out more possessions than we did. I thought that was pretty much the story of the game and committing turnovers."
On Roddricka Patton
"Well, I think she gives them ton of energy. She's a different look at the point position then Rashunda is. It looks like she has a lot of fire and desire to play the game and she made a big difference today."
