December 08, 2015 | Cowboy Basketball
NEW CASTLE, Ind. – In recognition of his outstanding high school career, former Oklahoma State standout Andre Owens was named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's 2016 Silver Anniversary Team, which recognizes the accomplishments of prep standouts who graduated 25 years ago.
Owens was a 1991 Indiana All-Star for South Bend Riley High School, where he scored 1,441 career points and led them to two conference and sectional championships.
As a senior, Owens averaged 24.5 points, 8.9 assists and 8.7 rebounds a game as a senior, en route to all-conference, all-sectional, all-regional and all-metro honors.
He transferred to OSU from Midland Community College, and was the point guard for the Cowboys' run to the Final Four in 1995. He posted 256 assists that season, which are still the third most ever by a Cowboy player. In fact, Owens tallied nine dimes in the Final Four game against UCLA.
Owens piled up 397 assists in his career at OSU, which still ranks seventh in school history and the most ever by a two-year player. His career 6.3 assist per game average trails only Doug Gottlieb in Cowboy history.
